The sci-fi soiree will hit Adelaide and Perth for the first time ever

Heads up, nerds – the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular has confirmed its impending return to Australia in 2015 with a new show, taking its evening of extravagance to Adelaide and Perth for the first time in addition to revisiting 2012 destination Sydney.

The Symphonic Spectacular will carry a slightly more vintage air than its predecessor, with Fifth Doctor Peter Davison scheduled to host the show with “assistance” from Daleks, Cybermen, and a raft of other timey-wimey™ monstrosities.

The evening is designed to celebrate not only where the show has been over the past 51 years, but also where it is going, featuring scores taken from the forthcoming eighth season (post-revival) of Doctor Who as well as some specially edited sequences of Peter Capaldi’s first run as the twelfth iteration of the universe’s favourite Time Lord.

“Audiences will be able to hear the first public performances of music from the Capaldi era, encapsulating the dizzy rush of a new Doctor,” long-time composer Murray Gold explained in a statement.

Gold’s compositions will be handled with skill and flair by three separate orchestras – the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra at the Perth Arena, and The Metropolitan Orchestra at Qantas Credit Union Arena, Sydney.

“Following the successful tour of Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington earlier this year, we’re delighted to bring this new production to Australia and take the show to Adelaide and Perth for the first time,” BBC Worldwide ANZ head of live entertainment Helen Pendlebury said. “Peter Davison was outstanding as a host and we’re pleased he is able to join us once more to introduce the music of Doctor Who to new audiences.”

The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular kicks off in Adelaide on January 24, 2015. Tickets will be made available for general release on August 18 via Ticketek.
