The New 'Birdman' Trailer Is Absolutely Incredible

Story seems familiar, though

A new glimpse of Michael Keaton's impending surreal dark comedy/drama/occasional action film (we think?), Birdman, Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance, has been released, and in news that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one who has seen the first trailer, it looks simply wonderful.

We use that word very deliberately — Birdman is the story of a washed-up Hollywood actor who got super famous playing a costumed hero about twenty years ago and then sank into obscurity (...cough), and is now trying to stage a Broadway play in one desperate last attempt to know the sweet kiss of relevance.

That in itself would be great, but the whole thing is knocked into outright excitement-inducing for its obviously fucking weird and fantastical aesthetic, seemingly smart script (at least the two-and-a-bit minutes we see of it here) and an impressive supporting cast including Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Zack Galifianakis and Naomi Watts.

Birdman, Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance is due to be released in the US in October — Australian release details will drop in the near future, but with most other international release dates falling into 2015, it's likely we won't get to see the full-scale madness until next year.
