The Eagle (Rock) has landed

Legendary Aussie outfit Daddy Cool are getting back in the saddle for a rare one-hour show in celebration of their just-announced induction to The Age Music Victoria Hall Of Fame this November.

“As you know, although we’re all four still working musicians, Daddy Cool reforms only for very special occasions,” frontman Ross Wilson said in a statement. “We do get offers to play now and then, but we don’t tour and we don’t need to. This is not only a prestigious award – it’s a fun thing, getting together with other musicians, people saying nice things about us and having a few free drinks at the end of the night. That sounds like fun and that appeals to us.  Daddy Cool has always been about having fun.”

Forty-three years since the release of their breakthrough debut single Eagle Rock, the act remains an essential part of any Aussie music fan’s education, and their impending induction on November 19 is just the latest achievement in their more than four decades of acclaim, which got off to a raring start When their 1971 LP Daddy Who? Daddy Cool! not only hit #1, but became the first Australian rock album in history to sell more than 100,000 copies.

The 2014 Age/Music Victoria Awards commence at 8.30pm on November 19 at 170 Russell. The evening will be hosted by MC Henry Wagons and feature special guest appearances from the likes of Russell Morris, Stonefield, and Jess Cornelius of Teeth & Tongue rubbing shoulders with RocKwiz’s Pete Luscombe and the EG Allstars. There will also be a very special tribute performance to the late Jim Keays from You Am I guitarist Davey Lane.
