South By Southwest To Hold Meet-And-Greets In Sydney And Melbourne

If the annual South By Southwest Music Festival & Conference seems like a daunting prospect to attend, then fret no longer, potential visitors – the globally renowned event has announced that it will be holding free meet-and-greet events in Melbourne and Sydney next month.

Being held across the midweek days of August 12-13, the meet-and-greets are designed to provide artists, industry professionals and those planning on attending the Interactive and Film festivals preceding next year’s conference with a chance to get to know one another and soak in some faces for a point of familiarity from March 12-16, 2015.

With registration and accommodation option opening up for bookings on August 4, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel (57 Swan Street, Richmond) will host the first meet-and-greet event on Tuesday, August 12 – Taco Tuesday, no less – which will kick off at 5.30pm and include an hour of networking drinks before SXSW veterans and experts take centre stage to talk all things South-by, with a Q&A running until 9pm.

The next night, on Wednesday, August 13, the Newtown Social Club will welcome their own complement of veterans and experts to complement the opening drinks and networking opportunity. No RSVP is necessary.

Artists interested in showcasing at SXSW 2015 can get started with an electronic press-kit application, exclusively available via Sonicbids for $US33 ($US45 from September 12). Applications close on October 10, but it’s best to get in early to minimise the risk of visa issues and other roadblocks to your smooth journey Stateside.

With Australian acts increasingly holding court at SXSW showcase events (51 out of an incredible 2371 acts in 2014), there’s never been a better time to take the plunge and get involved.
