More Robert Plant More Robert Plant

Legendary British musician Robert Plant has unveiled the trailer for his forthcoming tenth studio LP, Lullaby & … The Ceaseless Roar, and theMusic.com.au is proud to be able to present to you its exclusive Australian premiere here today.

Underscored by a selection of new tracks from the impending 11-track album, the trailer highlights the ex-Led Zeppelin frontman’s return to the rolling hills and valleys of the English-Welsh border, and the way in which both his homecoming and previous time abroad informed the shape Lullaby And… took during its inception.

Have a watch below:

“I’ve been away for a long time from these borders … I’ve been away from them even when I was in them,” Plant says in the trailer. “I think to return to the peace and the connection with so much that I’d forgotten gives a lot of power to my days.”

Recorded in collaboration with new live band the Sensational Space Shifters, Lullaby And… is the muso's first full-length since 2010's Band Of Joy, and juxtaposes Plant’s very personal ties to his homeland with the almost detached sense of curiosity that permeated a stay in North America.

“In my days in the United States, before I came back, I spent a lot of time travelling through the south; I was searching to see if I could find out what the character of the area was, from the radio that was on in the car,” Plant explains.

“So I wrote the lyrics for this piece against an amazing … link to those days, if you like, back there in the ‘30s and ‘40s when Clarksdale was the centre of the black revolution in music before the great migration up to Chicago.”

Propelled by the imagery of evocative rural and urban landscapes, its nomadic, transient atmosphere and an ultimately uplifting ethos, the Lullaby And… The Ceaseless Roar trailer indicates the record was perhaps a more philosophical end result than even Plant had intended.

“To come back to the Welsh borders, to the hills and valleys, the friends and confidants… it’s been… something that I didn’t even imagine when I was out there in Mississippi and Texas,” he says.

“These songs are an ode to life, and love, and the fragile adventure you set out upon unknowingly and unwittingly.”

Lullaby And … The Ceaseless Roar is due out on September 5, via Nonesuch/Warner. Pre-orders are available via iTunes now.
