Celebrate the human race's better half with art, music and culture

International pro-femme festivity LadyFest is returning to Brisbane once more in 2014.

After several years away from the Queensland capital, the international US-born movement made its way back to the city last year for six months of lady-focused events.

The diverse array of activities on offer will entice a wide range of art practitioners – both ladies and the people who love them – canvassing live music, panel discussions, art exhibitions, workshops, and more.

“LadyFest is a non-profit, community-based event designed by and for women to showcase, celebrate and encourage the artistic, organisational and political work and talents of women,” the event's website explains.

“The events are are organised and run by women, but all are welcome to attend.”

“The key aim of LadyFest Brisbane for us as organisers is to jointly celebrate and empower both women in the arts in Brisbane and everyone who appreciates them,” LadyFest Brisbane co-ordinator Marlin Othman said in a statement.

“We hope to empower and inspire women in our community to embrace the arts again. If just one lady is inspired to pick up a paintbrush, learn to play a musical instrument or write some poetry, then my work here is done.”

LadyFest Brisbane 2014 launches on July 18 at The Underdog, with special celebratory performances from the likes of The Stress Of Leisure, McKisko, The Bell Divers and Gunk.
