This should be astronomically good

Renowned Melburnian establishment the Star Hotel is making the full-time leap into staging live music from July 18, when it will begin hosting regular live band nights.

Until recently, the Star Hotel, which is located in South Melbourne, was dipping its toe in gig waters on Sundays only, operating under the well-known moniker Star Bar, but the iconic venue is rebranding and opening that up to be an ongoing concern, allowing them to showcase some of the very best unsigned acts Melbourne has to offer, as well as touring national and international bands and artists.

In some ways, the development of the live-music program has been a direct reaction to the shifting industry landscape not just in Melbourne but around the country, with Star Hotel area manager Tim Velema explaining: “We want to turn back the clock to the 80's and 90's when Star Hotel was a destination for live music.

"We want to fill the gap in the South Melbourne area for punters who love live music”.

Fans of non-live music aren't left out in the cold, however - the Star Hotel's regular Sunday-night weekly DJ nights will remain a key part of the venue's program, so if you've been a faithful attendant at the weekend wind-downs so far, there's absolutely no reason for you to stop in light of this truly excellent development.

The first couple of weeks of the revitalised Star Hotel's live music program get things off on the right foot, with Celtic-tinged folk-jig-rock outfit Secret Tsunami set to perform on Friday, July 18, Maxi swinging by on Saturday, July 19, Soul Safari on the cards for Friday, July 25, and New Traveller rounding out the month's program on Saturday, July 26.

Head along to the Star Hotel, 160 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne, to check out what all the fuss is about, and stay tuned for more information about future acts who will grace its inviting stage.
