The downward spiral continues

Hollywood's favourite dilettante, Shia LaBeouf, has found himself as the butt of social media jokes once again after news broke on Twitter that the former Transformers star had been escorted by police from a performance of Cabaret, starring Michelle Williams, at the famed Studio 54 in New York City.

According to the New York Daily News, police have confirmed the actor is being held in custody, though has not been charged.

Witness and police accounts indicate that LaBeouf was allegedly smoking cigarettes and behaving in an inappropriate and/or inebriated manner during the show, before being escorted out of the building "in tears" with handcuffs on at about 9pm.

Instagram user mrknowlesitall has found himself seemingly the only person on the scene with the presence of mind to have taken a (blurry) photo of the incident, which is presently making its way around the internet, but Twitter has also done more than enough in terms of entertainment value and commentary on the continuing downward spiral of the ex-child star and once-respected actor.

Here's a choice selection of social media's reaction to LaBeouf's behaviour at the show and consequent arrest.

To get the ball rolling, celeb blogger Perez Hilton managed to be typically histrionic in his reporting of the incident:

LaBeouf has been gaining infamy in recent years through his increasingly erratic behaviour, including being busted for plagiarism and wearing a paper bag over his head at the Berlin Film Festival that read, "I Am Not Famous Anymore".
