The Vic and SA capitals are ensuring their cities' creative futures

Melbourne City Council has endorsed a new arts strategy that aims to foster our artists in a bid to ensure Melbourne remains Australia's art capital.

The Arts Strategy 2014-17 was developed through an extensive process with the arts sector and community, which involved over a thousand people sharing their vision – by way of polls, online forums and public meetings – of what Melbourne's art scene should look like with respect to the local government and city.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said, “The arts make a crucial contribution to the city's liveability, wellbeing and identity. We needed a strategy to reflect this and take us confidently into the future.”

He stated that the City of Melbourne will continue to play its crucial role in the city's arts scene by providing support, funding, spaces and collaborative opportunities for artists and organisations.
