Reclink Community Cup Returning To Sydney

Let the games begin, for a good cause

Only a couple of days after musicians claimed victory over the media at Melbourne's 2014 Reclink Community Cup comes the announcement that the annual Aussie-rules charity clash is returning to Sydney.

It will be the third year that Sydney has hosted the sporting showdown, and to make this time a real charm, organisers have revealed that this year's event -- proudly presented by theMusic.com.au -- will be held on the hallowed ground of Henson Park, the same turf frequently stomped upon by the revered Newtown Jets.

Once more the melodious Western Walers, whose roster is drawn from local musicians, will face off against the malodorous Sydney Sailors (the dreaded media), who have proven the dominant side over the past two encounters.

As much fun as it is to see performers and the people who talk about them playing ball in friendly competition, the main point of the day is to raise funds and awareness for the exemplary work of Reclink, a non-profit organisation dedicated to assisting our most vulnerable and isolated citizens - those suffering from mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, or economic and/or social hardship - through engagement with sports and the arts.

The third annual Sydney Reclink Community Cup and day out will be held at Marrickville's Henson Park on Sunday, August 17. Gates open at noon, and entry will set you back a gold-coin donation. The Community Cup is not only licensed, but it's also family- and dog-friendly, so you can share the revelry with those closest to you. Smoking is not permitted at the grounds.
