Final Destination 5 and The Wolf Of Wall Street cast member P. J. Byrne has signed on for a role in HBO's as-yet untitled rock'n'roll pilot being directed by Martin Scorsese, Deadline has reported.

Byrne, who has acknowledged his casting on Twitter, joins a roster of talent that already includes former OC bad girl Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Bobby Cannavale of Chef and Boardwalk Empire fame, and ex-nightly sitcom staple Ray Romano, who was added to the cast last month.

Set in 1970s New York, the series delves into the Big Apple's musical landscape at the dawn of punk and disco's intrusion onto the popular "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll" philosophy and cultural hallmarks.

Byrne will play Scott Levitt, the partner of record executive Richie Finestra (Cannavale), a man on a mission to turn around his ailing business and find the next big thing.

Cannavale is not the only tie to HBO's bootlegging-era gangster drama Boardwalk Empire -- Scorsese previously helmed the show's premiere for the US cable-TV juggernaut, and will serve as executive producer on the new series alongside Boardwalk Empire creator, The Sopranos alumnus and The Wolf Of Wall Street scribe Terence Winter, as well as producer Emma Koskoff and ageing rock icon Mick Jagger.

Byrne will next be seen in drama/thriller Eloise, directed by Robert Legato, alongside Whedonverse fixture Eliza Dushku, T-1000 Robert Patrick and Gossip Girl mainstay Chace Crawford.

According to IMDb, the movie will follow four friends who "break into an abandoned insane asylum in search of a death certificate which will grant one of them a large inheritance".
