The Brissy-based indie darlings will join the likes of Megan Washington and Colin Hay as performers on the night

The annual APRA Music Awards are here again, and 2014 promises to maintain the event's reputation for quality, with this morning's announcement of ascendant Brisbane-based indie darlings Sheppard as headers on the line-up of top-notch artists and bands lending their talents to the yearly celebration.

Taking place on Monday, June 23, the performance will be the feather in the 2014 cap for the sibling act, following a meteoric shift to mainstream attention following the release of their breakthrough #1 single Geronimo. Since that cut lit up the airwaves, the band have been steadily asserting themselves on international tours and TV spots all over the shop.

The evening will also boast a performance from fellow Queenslander and beloved muso Megan Washington, whose follow-up to her acclaimed debut I Believe You Liar has been consistently elusive since its inception began two years ago. However, with a title – There, There – and two singles now released from the album (Who Are You and Limitless), as well as a projected release date of September, it looks like we may be seeing a lot more of Megs in the very near future.

In addition, former Men At Work frontman Colin Hay will be stepping out for the night, as will pop chanteuse Gossling, and up-and-coming youngster Melody Pool (with the Gin Club's Ben Salter). Electronic wunderkind Kirin J Callinan will perform with his band, while Brissy-based songwriter Jarryd Klapper will team up with 5THS, from TZU.

Lastly, but by no means least, the APRA Music Awards will also feature a special performance by Ted Albert Award recipient and ex-Go-Betweens drummer Lindy Morrison – with Big Scary and fellow GBs Amanda Brown, and Robert Vickers – cementing this year's ceremony as a standout when it comes to the calibre of music that will be on offer. Brown and Vickers will also serve as presenters on the evening, as will the illustrious Kate Miller-Heidke.

The APRA Music Awards will be held at Brisbane City Hall next Monday, June 23. Coverage of the ceremony, including exclusive performances and red-carpet/backstage interviews, will air on MAX at 8pm, Wednesday, July 9, with an encore presentation to screen at 10pm on Sunday, July 13.
