Ming-Na Wen joins the already A-list line-up of guests

Just like Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. itself, Supanova Pop Culture Expo has picked up its game considerably in recent weeks, with a slew of high-profile guest announcements helping shape the forthcoming Sydney/Perth conventions into formidable, world-class events.

The cavalry herself, Ming-Na Wen – also known as the ass-kicking, boys-club-breaking Melinda May on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. – is latest name to join the already impressive line-up featuring stars from the film and comics worlds, and TV shows such as Game Of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Adventure Time and Arrow.

Wen rose to prominence with her roles in global hit drama ER, Vanished and the short-lived Stargate Universe before assuming the role of Agent May, who as a former pilot and the team's weapons expert has quickly garnered herself a dedicated following among both genders and stands out as a bright spot of pro-representation in television's churning sea of white people.

Wen was recently nominated for a People's Choice Award – Favourite Actress in a New TV Series – for her portrayal of Agent May in the show, itself a Critics' Choice Award nominee for Most Exciting New Series.

Even if you don't watch Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., if you've seen Mulan, you'll recognise the voice – Wen starred as the title character in Disney's seminal Eastern tale, going on to win an Annie Award for her reprised portrayal of the character in the video game Kingdom Hearts II. She has also performed voice work for shows such as Phineas & Ferb, The Batman and Adventure Time.

Supanova Sydney will be held from June 13-15, and Perth will have its turn on June 21 and 22. Check the Supanova website for more details.
