More Mia Dyson More Mia Dyson

It's a busy time for acclaimed Aussie expat performer Mia Dyson — with the release of her fifth full-length album, Idyllwild, just around the bend on June 6, today we are proud to present the exclusive first taster (not an official single) from it in the form of super-sweet track That Sugar.

"Sugar only lasts a while — and it can be addictive, that search — whether it's for material things, for success, for finding someone," Dyson has explained of the song. "Leading up to recording the album, we had been playing this song live with the band and we'd settled on a straight-ahead rock-and-roll arrangement of the song. It was fun to play, but when it came time to record it, there was a sense that the lyric might get lost in all the band rocking out.

"So we re-adjusted our approach and brought it back to basics a little bit with acoustic guitar and double bass. Then everyone pitched in to create the group percussion. We banged on drums with shakers and tambourines laid on top of them, we stomped and clapped together. Taking it apart and putting it back together to make it more atmospheric I think really ended up serving the song better and I'm glad we did. That's the fun part of making an album, getting to explore a song."
