Thundamentals & In Hearts Wake Chasing Down ‘Frozen’ On Midweek Charts

Can they beat Lily Allen, Buble and Frozen?

Australian groups Thundamentals and In Hearts Wake are in the mix for top ten debuts on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, but the midweek figures are showing that there's a couple of international heavyweights holding out the top spots.

Last week the soundtrack to Frozen crept up to number one, holding Iggy Azalea out, and the hit release – which has dominated the US charts for weeks – is favourite to retain that spot this week. Splendour In The Grass headliner Lily Allen, who had a #1 in 2009 with It's Not Me, It's You, is leading this week's new entries with Sheezus embedded well in the top ten, but Sydney hip hop troupe Thundamentals' So We Can Remember and Byron Bay metalcore outfit In Hearts Wake's Earthwalker are both in the mix at well, with Thundamentals a nose ahead at this stage.

MIDWEEK STATS

- Thundamentals, In Hearts Wake in with chance of top spots, but need strong Wed-Thur-Fri sales.
- Lily Allen likely top debut, but Michael Bublé is a real threat
- DZ Deathrays with The Angels around the 20-25 region

Both have strong fanbases and have whipped up excitement through tours (Thundamentals blew Groovin The Moo away and the Earthwalker tour is well on its way to selling out) and could make major moves into the top five with strong sales in the second half of the week. It's a sure bet that both debuts will be their highest respectively to date, with In Hearts Wake previously peaking at 27 in 2012 with Divination.

Unfortunately it's not just a Disney soundtrack and Lily they have to overcome though, Michael Bublé's To Be Loved re-entered the top 50 at five last week thanks to his current tour. Sales are still on the rise and only a fool would bet against Bublé being a number one contender this week once again.

Two Aussie rock bands from different eras will likely feature in close proximity further down the chart, with The Angels' 40 Years Of Rock – Vol 1: 40 Greatest Studio Hits (timely due to a recent Australian Story episode on frontman Doc Neeson) and DZ Deathrays' second album Black Rat looking at debuts in the top 20 to 25 region. The Angels' 40 Years Of Rock - Vol 2: 40 Greatest Live Hits will also land inside the top 50, albeit further down.

New Zealand trio Sol3 Mio's self-titled album will move up from 20, with Engelbert Humperdink's Engelbert Calling set to rise from 40 and the Love Child soundtrack from 45.

Outside the top 25, expect debuts from David Hobson & Rachael Beck's My Baby Just Cares For Me, Ben Harper's Childhood Home and Ray LaMontagne's Supernova.

There's even fewer assurances in the ARIA Singles Chart, with Ed Sheeran's Sing under fire from Justice Crew's new single Que Sera, a change in direction which has brought the Australian group a lot of mainstream media attention this week. Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea's Problem is the biggest mover from the existing tracks and will rise from last week's debut at four.

Other debuts will come from Coldplay's A Sky Full Of Stars, Michael Jackson's Love Never Felt So Good, Ricki-Lee's All We Need Is Love and Sam Smith's Money On My Mind while Sam Smith's Stay With Me, ZHU's Faded, Idina Menzel's Let It Go, Milky Chance's Stolen Dance, DJ Snake featuring Lil Jon's Turn Down For What and Pharrell Williams' Marilyn Monroe are among those experiencing sales boosts.
