Byron Bay's three-day Splendour In The Grass festival has sold out amid a chaotic morning of ticket sales.

Punters buying tickets were stung with credit card fees in the thousands as ticket platform Moshtix suffered “technical issues” that some suspect may have been a result of the hacking. Moshtix have since confirmed to theMusic.com.au that those transactions will be cancelled today and those affected offered the opportunity to re-purchase their tickets at the standard price.

“Splendour would like to thank everyone for their patience this morning,” says the festival in a statement. “Anyone that is concerned they have been charged the incorrect amounts or experienced technical difficulties during the purchase process should contact moshtix at ticketsupport.moshtix.com.au.”

This morning's issues were met with much frustration, which was vented through social media. In another statement this afternoon Splendour have said, “We know that many of you have queries about your ticket transactions. We are hearing your comments loud and clear.

“Please keep in mind demand for tickets this year was huge as it is every year, but this year in particular was massive.

“For those who are querying what went wrong, we are currently, in conjunction with Moshtix, investigating some of the complications that we experienced with the ticketing system but we can 100 percent confirm that nobody's personal information has been compromised.

“Moshtix has confirmation on who was overcharged on the credit card fees or purchased a discounted ticket, and they will be in contact shortly.

"Please allow us some time to work through this process. We want to know what happened as much as you do. For those who had any other complication in their ticket purchasing process please contact http://ticketsupport.moshtix.com.au/anonymous_requests/new.”

The festival, which features Outkast, Lily Allen, Two Door Cinema Club and London Grammar and 80-odd others will take place Friday 25 to Sunday 27 July at North Byron Parklands. Three others were added after the initial announce.

Splendour have indicated that sideshows will begin to be announced on Monday. Tours by other promoters may be announced earlier.

Artists that will not be playing sideshows include Outkast, Two Door Cinema Club, Interpol, Darkside, Chvrches, Danny Brown, Buraka Som Sistema and Parquet Courts, for whom Splendour is their only Australian show on this run.
