Full details revealed

Triple j's new digital radio station Double J has officially launched today, with weekday host and face of the station Myf Warhurst announcing the presenter line-up at 1pm.

The station, which replaces Dig Music and will not have an analogue frequency, kicked off with Nick Cave & The Bad Seed's Get Ready For Love, while the launch also featured live performances by Kate Miller-Heidke and Paul Dempsey.

Alongside Warhurst's 11am-3pm daily weekday shift, musician and FBi graduate Emma Swift, Melbourne musician Tim Shiel, 3RRR and former triple j host Karen Leng, ex-triple j host Caz Tran and The Bamboos' Lance Ferguson will host shows on weekday evenings and weekends.

There will also be an artist is residence series that takes place across a month of Sundays, with The Go-Betweens' Robert Foster starting the series this Sunday before The Cat Empire, Adalita and Kevin Mitchell, Henry Rollins and Iggy Pop (BBC's The Iggy Pop Radio Show) have their turns.

After leaving theMusic.com.au earlier this month, Dan Condon has been appointed Double J's Music Editor. Dorothy Markek, most recently a music programmer for Channel [V] and Music Director at Max TV, has been named Assistant Music Director.

Double J's Content Director Meagan Loader told theMusic.com.au, “We'll be playing straight music in the morning, bringing the listeners new music as well as their favourite tunes from the past. We wanted to offer an alternative to the usual busy breakfast programming that's available across the dial and we think our audience will embrace this format.”

She added that they were “thrilled” with their presenter and feature line-up, which is understood to be the full line-up for the foreseeable future.

“On top of all the great new music, we have incredible specialist music shows, allowing for plenty of musical adventurousness. Plus The Artist in Residence program hands over the radio reigns to a different artist each month.”

Young and emerging artists platform triple j Unearthed will have a presence on Double J, with Loader saying “the Music Directors of both networks are in constant conversations with each other about new music.

“We've been adding a couple of Unearthed artists each week to for the past few months, thrilled to be able to provide another outlet for all the terrific new, independent Australian music that comes through Unearthed.”

There was no suggestion that ABC TV's Exhumed music talent quest will have Double J tie-ins.
