Xzibit show this weekend still going ahead

Further to yesterday's news that renowned Brisbane venue the Tempo Hotel will be closing amid a dispute with Council over restrictions on its Amplified Music Permit, theMusic.com.au can now confirm that the hotel - as well as sister venue Chalk Hotel - has been placed in the hands of administrators.

Chalk, like Tempo, which is also managed by BT Hotels and Property Group, has been a staunch supporter of a range of live music, though their speciality has historically tended to lie with more dance-centric demographics.

Although a source close to Chalk indicated that the venue had stopped booking DJs as of about a month ago, it remains unclear at this time whether the receivership will lead to a eventual shutting of its doors. However, according to a statement from receivers BDO, the intention is for the hotel to remain operational for the foreseeable future.

With respect to future events at the venue, a representative at Chalk has confirmed with theMusic.com.au that punters who have purchased (or want to purchase) tickets for this weekend's Sound Check event, featuring hip hop juggernaut Xzibit as well as Funkoars, Briggs, Demrick, IAMD, Remi and DJ Invisible, will still be able to enjoy the fledgling urban music event from 3pm Saturday as planned.

Originally envisioned as the first of ten monthly mini-festivals, the fate of the remaining nine events is now up in the air, with a Chalk representative unable to confirm or speculate on future plans. Tickets are still available from chalkhotel.com.au.
