EYE ON THE CHARTS

Brisbane pop wonders Sheppard have claimed the top spot in this week's indie singles chart, with their current radio hit Geronimo (Independent/MGM). The song, which is the number one song in the country at the moment, dethroned songwriting whiz Sia from top spot - her latest track Chandelier (Monkey Puzzle/Inertia) is now sitting at two. Chet Faker, who has just announced a national tour, remains at three with his single Talk Is Cheap (Future Classic/Independent).

There were several debuts in this week's chart including the new jam from hip hop crew Thundamentals. Their single Got Love (Obese Records) featuring Solo entered in at 10, while Lurch & Chief's Mother/Father (Independent) and Ball Park Music's Everything Is Shit Except My Friendship With You (Stop Start Music/Inertia) came in at 16 and 19 respectively.

But it was in this week's albums chart that Ball Park Music had even greater success, with their new LP Puddinghead (Stop Start Music/Inertia) debuting at number one. This shifted reigning number one John Butler Trio and their record Flesh & Blood down to two, while Chet Faker again remained in third with his 2012 release Thinking In Textures (Opulent/Inertia). Wolfmother's surprise release New Crown (Independent) jumped considerably this week, moving from from 15 to fourth.

Aussie new wave stalwarts made a return to the charts with their new album Ultraviolet debuting at seven, while this week's other notable debut came from The Black Sorrows. Their latest LP Certified Blue (Head Records/MGM) rounded out the top 20.
