11 Aussie Indie Labels Funded Through Australia Council Recording Initiative

Almost half a million bucks given away for new projects.

Eleven of Australia's best independent record labels have secured substantial funding thanks to Australia Council's Recording initiative.

The initiative looks to fund labels that have a strong track record as far as releasing and marketing quality recordings from Australian artists and the money is to be used to produce and release numerous recordings over a 12 month period. Labels get money, artists make releases, music lovers get records, everyone wins.

There was an increase in the budget allocated for this initiative this year, meaning that the Australia Council were able to fund 11 of the 37 labels that applied for the money this year. All up, they've approved $420,828 to be given out in amounts ranging from $25,000 to $50,000.

Two Bright Lakes (VIC), $25,000
Wantok Musik Foundation (VIC), $25,000

The judging panel was made up of Lawrence English, Philip Mortlock and Mark Smith.
