The frontman has made a very cool video.

You've most likely heard a fair bit about Lurch & Chief over the past year or so; the first single from their Wiped Out EP, We Are The Same, was voted as one of the top 200 songs of last year by triple j listeners.

We're super stoked to bring you the first look at the clip for their follow up single Mother/Father, which the band launched at a scintillating hometown show last weekend, and has been getting flogged on the aforementioned youth network. We already knew the song ruled, but we're pleased to report the clip, made by frontman Hayden Somerville and Gianna Mazzeo, is just as good.

Here's what Somerville has to say about the clip:

“The film depicts a mental and physical struggle within the main character and is inspired by the duelling vocals throughout Mother/Father.

“For the majority of the film, the camera tracks back and forth, along a hallway, between two rooms, peering inside each in a voyeuristic manner. One room represents our characters normal reality and the other, his dark twisted fantasies. The seamless camera track allows the film to look and feel technically and aesthetically pleasing.

“The reality room represents our main characters everyday life. Simple, yet visually compelling everyday situations take place in this room. For example, our character plays video games with a younger male, or throws his female partners feminine clothes onto his bed in a playful manner. All these situations are innocent and day-to-day.

“As the camera tracks down the hallway to the next room, these everyday situations are juxtaposed with dark and twisted fantasies. For example, the previous scene where our character and a younger companion enjoy videogames quickly becomes an eerie photo shoot in the dark fantasy room. Our character is now taking personal photos of a younger man in his underwear on a bed, uncomfortable and again visually compelling.

“Lighting is used critically to highlight the difference between our characters reality and dark fantasy. Soft, warm light is used in the reality room compared to harsh shadowy and colored lighting in the dark fantasy room. Both the room's interiors are also quite similar, same wall color, floorboard and shelving for example. This used to aid the audience in understanding the film's concept”:
