Leichhardt and Marrickville are on-board

Two Sydney councils have thrown their support behind the City of Sydney's Live Music Taskforce with Leichhardt and Marrickville Councils both backing the reform.

Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne confirmed his council had committed to work with Marrickville Council and the City Of Sydney on reviving the local live music scene at a meeting held on the issue last week.

“As the City of Sydney, Marrickville Council and Leichhardt Council not only share borders, but also share number of similar challenges, this alliance is common sense," Byrne said in a statement.

The three have agreed to share a united voice when lobbying for change in support of venues and share information, resources and consult with one another on matters related to the reforms.

The taskforce unveiled their thorough action plan of 57 recommendations on how to keep Sydney's live music scene thriving back in November. The City Of Sydney agreed to begin implementing around 20% of these recomendations the following month, with strategies such as parking permits for musicians, free rehearsal space for students, live performance series for younger people aged 12-24 part of the initial roll-out.
