TV show gives best of a huge boost

More INXS More INXS

The INXS back catalogue is storming up the charts this week thanks to the attention generated by the TV mini series INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, which could gift the band the number one spot.

Watched by 1.974 million viewers in metro areas on Sunday, the band's back catalogue has been a prominent feature of this week's iTunes charts – this afternoon five of the top ten were INXS releases. Music streaming service Spotify reported a 246 percent increase in INXS streams within 24 hours in Sunday, while they were up 596 percent from the week before.

Topping the iTunes chart is INXS' The Very Best, which has climbed to four in the ARIA Albums Charts thanks to the show's promotional build-up. According to midweek figures, that record is a favourite for the number one spot this week.

Its biggest competitor is the new release from the John Butler Trio, Flesh & Blood, while new albums from Neil Finn (Dizzy Heights) and Broken Bells (After The Disco) are trailing the frontrunners.

The INXS TV show's impact is being felt for other releases as well, with their Live At Wembley Stadium 1991 album looking at a possible top ten debut. INXS' classic album Kick is also tracking for a top ten spot. The Swing will be a bit behind that, but in the top 50 while over in the ARIA Singles Chart Never Tear Us Apart is looking at a top 15 spot at this stage.

It's not all about INXS, though, Bruce Springsteen's album High Hopes has had a strong boost given his Australian tour has kicked off, while Haim's Days Are Gone is also selling ell this week.

Prepared Like A Bride's Overcomer, Bombay Bicycle Club's So Long, See You Tomorrow and Temples' Sun Structures will also debut in the top 50.

The midweek figures are showing that there's only really one single debut that'll trouble the ARIA scorers Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne's Rather Be.

There's a few movers though, with Rihanna's Jump being the fastest climber at this stage. Cash Cash featuring Bebe Rexha's Take Me Home, Kim Cesarion's Undressed, OneRepublic's If I Lose Myself, the aforementioned INXS track and Sara Bareilles' Brave all have boosts as well.
