Just hours ahead of her return to regular TV work, Kylie Minogue announced the release date for her new single Into The Blue.

The Australian pop superstar began her new TV role as a coach on the British version of TV talent contest The Voice this weekend, alongside will.i.am and Tom Jones.

To be released on March 16, Into The Blue is lifted from Minogue's upcoming 12th studio album.

The single is a collaboration with LA songwriter/engineer Kelly Sheehan - who has previously written songs for Nicki Minaj and Rita Ora as well as co-penning Grown Woman from Beyonce's current number one album.

The track has been described by UK press sources as "a euphoric return to the dancefloor", having most recently re-interpreted her past club hits in non-dance mode on The Abbey Road Sessions album in 2012.

While Minogue's last dance album was Aphrodite back in 2010, last year she did drop a return to club bangers with the lowkey release of the track Skirt.

In a statement regarding the new single, Minogue said: "2013 was a year of big change, planning and preparation for me and I'm so excited that 2014 is finally here so I can share this new music. Into The Blue is really special to me as it encapsulates a lot of what I've been feeling - I can't wait for it to be out there."

The ensuing album, her first since joining Jay-Z's Roc Nation management group, is expected to include songs produced by Pharrell Williams, Greg Kurstin (Sia, Santigold, Katy Perry), MNEK (Rudimental) and Ariel Rechtshaid (Sky Ferreira, Major Lazer, Haim).

While 2014 will see Minogue, now 45, make her most determined effort to crack the US market, beyond her cult gay club following there, in Australia she will soon be seen being portrayed by Samantha Jade in February's INXS mini-series, Never Tear Us Apart, to be screened on Seven.
