Falls said that their Tasmanian event pumped ore than $15 million into the state's economy in 2012, with 55 percent of the sold-out crowd coming from inter-state. They said that 64 percent of the water used at their Victorian festival is rainwater, with 468,000 litres harvested in total. 55 tonnes of waste was recycled or composted last year.

“It's great to be recognized as an industry leader for our sustainable initiatives and processes for the second year in a row,” Falls Festival co-Director Jessica Ducrou said today.

“Our events are set in regional locations, we work on and care for these farms year-round and we're very passionate about minimising waste and consumption in the area. The festival is now operating at level that makes a large difference to preserving and improving our local environments.”

The national tourism awards, taken from the state winners, will be announced 15 February in Hobart.
