Artists to crowdfund for filmed live footage

Direct-to-fan music crowdfunding service PledgeMusic continues to embed itself with the music industry with a new deal that will allow artists to create and market live DVDs set to be announced next week.

In partnership with online music video creators Moshcam, artists will use the Pledge platform to raise funds to have a show filmed and then a physical or digital release of that footage managed and produced. Exact figures of expected costs will vary depending on the venue and level of production and while a rep was unable to supply a hard figure today, they stressed there are no start-up costs. Moshcam will handle matters of clearance, post-production and distribution as part of the deal.

Dubbed 'Shoot My Gig', the footage will then also be added to Moshcam's online library of videos, with the artists – or their label and or publisher – retaining full copyright of the footage and recordings.

PledgeMusic's Australian General Manager Scot Crawford said today that the partnership hoped to create a “simple, no-fuss approach to provide fans with a recorded document, whether physical or digital, of a live show.

“We can see this growing into an extremely important part of the marketing mix. It creates another potential product that artists can anchor a broad range of offerings against; or it could purely be used to enhance other potential direct to fan projects.”

Moshcam's CEO Stephen Peach said that his service will deliver “a global platform” to artists, which they can “distribute and market their performance to existing and new fans, helping promote tours and releases as well as develop audiences around the world.”

Moshcam recently underwent a relaunch, which involved a complete overhaul of its web presence, while theMusic last month revealed details of ARIA's uptake of PledgeMusic's figures.
