Dan Sultan, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Hiatus Kaiyote and more given the nod

Music Victoria's reborn EG Awards have today announced the nominees across 11 categories, with Dan Sultan, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Hiatus Kaiyote, Archie Roach and Ooga Boogas picking up nominations amongst many others.

The new-look The Age Music Victoria Awards have had a new drive to better represent the city's music scene, as was indicated upon announcement. Today's nominees have come across the 11 genre award categories and were decided by a range of media and industry representatives. They were broken up into 11 panels for the awards to whittle down lists into top fives. A total of 55 different artists have been recognised.

The public-voted awards, where some of these artists will re-appear, will be announced at a later date.

The awards will take place Wednesday 20 November at Billboard during Melbourne Music Week. Voting for the public categories will open Friday 11 October. Renée Geyer and promoter Michael Gudinski will be inducted into The Age Music Victoria Hall Of Fame on the night.
