But the big winner at the Creative Arts Emmys – held a week prior to the primetime Emmys – was HBO's Behind The Candelabra, which looked at the life of Liberace. It took out eight awards from nine nominations and many believe it is likely to scoop the pool next week, where it has 15 nominations.

Other wins of note went to Louis C.K. for best writing in his Louis C.K.: Oh My God special and Melissa Leo for her role as guest actress in C.K.'s program Louie. Plus, Australian co-production Top Of The Lake picked up a cinematography award.

Primetime sitcom How I Met Your Mother managed to secure two awards for behind-the-lens excellence while newcomer Netflix's House Of Cards picked up two gongs and is expected to cause some upsets next week. HBO's epic Game Of Thrones also scored two awards - one for make-up and visual effects (of course). South Park, The Office, Breaking Bad, Project Runway, Nurse Jackie, Portlandia, Childrens Hospital and 30 Rock all took out one award each.
