Former owners working with new owners

Stalwarts of Sydney's iconic The Annandale Hotel, brothers Matt and Dan Rule, will return to booking the venue under new owners Oscars.

Dan Rule confirmed the news to theMusic.com.au today, with their company Music, Booze & Stuff also looking after the music elements of Marrickville's The Vic and Newtown's Marly Bar.

After mounting an expensive fight against residents and liquor boards to keep the venue afloat in recent years, the former owners reluctantly handed over control of The Annandale in February this year. They expressed frustration after the council's u-turn in support, which came to late for them.

Oscars will take control of the venue this coming Monday and last month the company's Group General Manager Damien Cameron told theMusic he was committed to continuing live music, at least until the end of the year. Oscars bought the hotel in May after the very-public listing of the venue.

Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne is still confident that the proposed Parramatta Road Live Music Precinct will be in place by the end of the year and will provide venues, including The Annandale, with financial incentives to keep music.

The Rule brothers are hoping to grow Music, Booze & Stuff and today Dan said, “Hopefully we can work with a few venues and develop some strategies.”
