Filming will start this year.

The long touted new biopic about the one and only Godfather Of Soul, James Brown, looks like it will finally come to fruition, with Variety this morning reporting that the film has been green lit and that the role of Brown has been cast.

Brown will be played by Chadwick Boseman, who has recently starred in the biopic 42 about baseball player Jackie Robinson.

Universal and Imagine Entertainment are behind the picture with Imagine's Brian Grazer joining The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger and African American activist Ericka Huggins as producers on the project.

The film will be directed by Tate Taylor who helmed the 2011 film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's book The Help.

Grazer has said to be looking at making a film about Brown for the best part of a decade, but Taylor's inclusion in the project saw it start to build some momentum. Taylor told Associated Press that filming would commence this year and that the film would be shot entirely in Mississippi.
