The band leave Warner Music after 35 years.

More Cold Chisel More Cold Chisel

Legendary Australian rockers Cold Chisel have today announced the formation of their very own label imprint, which will be the new home for their iconic catalogue of classic albums, effective from Tuesday 1 October.

This new imprint sees the band leaving Warner Music, the label they signed to (when it was WEA) over 35 years ago, as their label Cold Chisel Music will be distributed through the Universal Music Group. After all this time (and over six million album sales) the rights to their catalogue have reverted to the band, who believe it is time for a fresh approach to the marketing and promotion of their music.

Upon announcing the news, the band's frontman Jimmy Barnes and principal songwriter Don Walker say that their own imprint will give them the control over their catalogue that they desire and will assist in bringing the music of Cold Chisel to more people than ever before.

"We're proud of all the albums we've made and the impact the band has had and we're keen for people to keep discovering Cold Chisel's music,” Barnes said in a statement today. "We think that having our own label will give us the best shot at doing that".

"Having our own imprint will give us complete control over how our recordings are presented to people over the coming years," Walker explained. “Ian, Phil, Jim, Steve and I always liked to do things our own way so this feels like the right next step for Cold Chisel.”

The bill will not seek to release records by any other bands on their label, solely focusing on the re-release of their back-catalogue, potential new recordings and a forthcoming live release from their recent Light The Nitro tour. The band promise more detail on these records “over coming months”.
