Police question iconic Aussie performer

More Rolf Harris More Rolf Harris

Rolf Harris has once again been arrested in the UK over sex abuse allegations as part of Scotland Yard's Operation Yewtree, which was set up to investigate child abuse scandal of popular TV presenter Jimmy Saville following his death.

In March theMusic.com.au was the first Australian news outlet to name to iconic performer and ARIA Hall Of Fame member as the individual who had been interviewed by police last November, before being arrested in March. Now UK paper The Independent has confirmed that Harris has been arrested for a second time, with authorities not naming Harris but saying that a man had been “further arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in connection with further allegations made to Operation Yewtree.”

Harris' arrest is believed to be under the third strand of Yewtree's investigation, which covers incidences not related to Saville.

Initially bailed in March to the August date, he has been re-bailed to a later date in August. No charges have been laid.

Earlier this year ARIA could not to tell theMusic whether he would be stripped of his Hall Of Fame honour if found guilty on sex abuse charges, saying they would not comment while the police investigation was ongoing.

Harris has had the rare honour of painting the Queen and performed outside Buckingham Palace last year for her diamond jubilee concert.
