The Japanese activist to chat and debate at the Sydney Opera House

More Yoko Ono More Yoko Ono

Internationally-recognised figure Yoko Ono will make her way to Sydney this November, taking an Australian stage for the first time in her career to discuss and debate at the Sydney Opera House.

Ono, the now 80 year old widow of John Lennon, will participate in the Ideas at the House event called In Conversation with Yoko Ono: War Is Over (If You Want It), where she will shed light on her life, art and political activism in conversation with Museum of Contemporary Art Curator, Rachel Kent.

A well-known avant-garde artist, musician and film-maker, as well as an avid supporter and activist of the peace movement, Ono will also display her exhibition of the same title at the MCA,  a retrospective of her five decade career, provocative and political visual art, and a hands-on approach for art-goers.

And it seems Yoko Ono has no intention of slowing down, taking on the role of curator for the recent Meltdown Festival at the Southbank in London performances, remaining a renowned spokesperson for Artists Against Fracking – or the drilling of fluids into the ground to release natural gasses – and is set to release a new album with the Plastic Ono Band this September.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday 26 July through the Opera House website.

Unfortunately for fans around Australia, the Joan Sutherland Theatre and MCA event will be the only venue for the exhibition, but here is a beautiful Ono cover of Katy Perry's Firework for everyone's enjoyment.
