Josh Pyke - The Beginning And The End Of Everything (Ivy League/Liberation)

The singer-songwriter is back with his fourth LP, pleasing a whole range of punters with this one. Everything that makes Pyke so great is on the album - his engaging lyrics and familiar folk melodies. We've been lucky this week - the man himself invited us into his studio for a few exclusive performances of some of these tracks. Enjoy part one and two.

Long Holiday - Greetings From... (Independent)

The debut studio release from these guys is here and don't be fooled by the cheery cover art - this is modern-era grunge. Think the love child of Garbage and Nirvana and you get Melbourne's Long Holiday. Whether it stands up to those lofty expectations is another thing, but they're certainly making an attempt to fill the grunge void in the current scene.

Whitley - Even The Stars Are A Mess (Dew Process/Universal)

Whitley is back after announcing his indefinite hiatus from music in 2010 - and it's nice to have the sounds of Lawrence Greenwood in our ears again. This record is simple and emotionally possessive, not unlike his previous work. A nice return to the game.

Glass Towers - Halcyon Days (HUB/Inertia)

We've been streaming this one on theMusic all week, so if you're a fan, chances are you have heard this debut from the Sydney band. Frontman Ben Hannam also chatted with us about the game-breaking LP, which he describes the sound as lush and layered. Read more.

Daughn Gibson - Me Moan (Sub Pop/Inertia)

Here's a risky and darker release from the singer-songwriter, his follow up to All Hell. The vibe of this one puts Gibson in the same vague as fellow experimental and provocative artists such as Jack Ladder and Kirin J Callinan. There's plenty of memorable melodies and rhythms that make Me Moan shine.

Sweet Jean - Dear Departure (Fuse)

Time to swept away by the simplicity and sincere sound of Melbourne duo Sweet Jean. There's an assortment of stories being told on this record, each presenting a different atmosphere. You'll no doubt be left singing, thinking and reminiscing after giving Dear Departure a listen.
