Jason Newsted made himself a household name as the longest-serving bassist for metal gods Metallica, but now he's taking on a new pet project and swapping the bass for the mike.

The musician, who was also an integral member of Vovoid, Flotsam and Jetsam, will front a new four-piece metal outfit, aptly titled Newsted. The band will release their debut album Heavy Metal Music on Friday 2 August. The guys dropped a teaser EP earlier this year - here's a taste of what the quartet are all about with the track Soldierhead, which will also feature on the album.

Here's the tracklist for the upcoming LP:

1. Heroic Dose
2. Soldierhead
3. ...As The Crow Flies
4. Ampossible
5. Long Time Dead
6. Above All
7. King Of The Underdogs
8. Nocturnus
9. Twisted Tail Of The Comet
10. Kindevillusion
11. Futureality

In other Metallica news, the band posted some videos of their February Soundwave tour on their website over the weekend. You can relive all the glory of their epic shows here.
