The Masonic Temple will live on

More Jack White More Jack White

Jack White has saved Detroit's Masonic Temple from auction, it's been reported by The New York Times.

White payed $142,000 in the building's back taxes to prevent the iconic live music performance space from being auctioned off, with the venue on the brink of demise. President of the Detroit Masonic Temple Association, Roger Sobran said that all involved with the venue will forever be thankful for what White had done for them.

"Jack's donation could not have come at a better time, and we are eternally grateful to him for it."

The Masonic Temple has played host to the likes of the Who, the MC5 and the Rolling Stones over the years, as well as The White Stripes. But White's personal motivation seems to go beyond just wanting to save live music - his mother was previously an usher at the venue. According to the report, one of two theatres inside the building will now be named after White.
