Paul Yore's St Kilda exhibition was raided by police

Melbourne artist Paul Yore is likely to be charged with child porn offences after police raided a St Kilda exhibition last week.

After community opposition to Yore's installation, which allegedly depicted sexualised children, police raided the Linden Centre for Contemporary Art on Friday seizing several of Yore's works.

“Police seized several pictures that were on display allegedly depicting sexual acts with children's faces superimposed onto them,” the police report said, although Yore told local media that the raid was “bordering on homophobia.”

Today Victorian radio SEN confirmed that a 25-year-old man was questioned by police yesterday in relation to the raid and that he is likely to be charged with producing and possessing child pornography.

Speaking to the Port Phillip Leader Yore said, “I don't think this work is shocking compared to what's out there in society”. He said that paedophilia was one issue explored in the art.

His art was featured as part of a tribute exhibition to controversial Australian artist Mike Brown, who himself was convicted of obscenity in the 1960s. One of the centrepieces of the work featured Justin Bieber's head pasted onto a cardboard cut-out child, which was urinating from a dildo.

Local councillor Andrew Bond dubbed the work “complete smut” while locals were divided on the matter.

A representative from the Linden Centre was unable to comment to theMusic.com.au today.
