Ready To Go revving up fans for the weekend

More Urthboy More Urthboy

Sydney rapper, label boss and entrepreneur Urthboy has provided the soundtrack to a new Sydney Swans advertisement.

Urthboy – real name Tim Levinson – has licensed his track Ready To Go, from 2009's album Spitshine, to the Australian Rules Football club for the ad, which will be screened throughout the week ahead of their round two match against the Gold Coast Suns.

The Swans are riding high in 2013 after clinching the AFL premiership last year. The day before the Grand Final Urthboy – a Sydney diehard – told theMusic.com.au, “Cheering on the Swans is to side with the perennial underdog, charged with representing a city that has not fully understood the guts and poetry that shakes down the SCG every couple of weeks in winter. Admired and feared for their fiercely proud footy culture, the Swans have become the team that every true fan respects.

“You can keep your teams with your massive supporter base and memberships; you can have your sports pages filled with AFL news and gossip; you can watch your footy show in prime time. I (mostly) don't care. Give me a team of spirited never say die conviction that doesn't know how to bottom out, somehow rising even when the escalator is on its descent, and I'll be happy. Go the Bloods; we love your guts; we love your unlikely heroes and recycled superstars; stick it up the maggots!! Let's dance!”

Of the synching deal Levinson said today, “The track has a lot of energy, the track has a lot of spirit, and the track has a lot of urgency, just like the Swans. I think any time where you are the reigning premiers, there is a potential to take your eyes off the prize and to rest on your laurels, but I think everyone listening to this song knows that it is not going to be the case and that the hunger is greater now than ever.”

He added, ““One of the great reasons that I'm a fan of the Swans is because of the breed of football that they play. There's a real mongrel and 'never say die' attitude to the Swans and in a lot of ways it goes against what a lot of the rest of Australia thinks about Sydney.”
