Tim Minchin's got over his Auto-Tune woes

Michael Gudinski's Frontier Touring are bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber's re-imagined Jesus Christ Superstar arena production to Australia from May.

The Australia dates are the first leg of the production's international tour, the show features Australia's own Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot. Filmed for a DVD release, Minchin made headlines last year after admitting he was “humiliated” when producers applied Auto-Tune to his voice for the tie-in soundtrack.

The cast also includes former Spice Girl Melanie C as Mary Magdalene and Ben Forster as Jesus. Jon Stevens, who played Judas in the 1992 tour and 1994 theatre production, will be in the fold for the Australian leg once again playing Pontius Pilate while Andrew O'Keefe will play King Herod.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said, “I'm thrilled that Australia is to be the first leg for our international tour of the new Jesus Christ Superstar. We had an overwhelming reception when the show toured the country for an astounding 84 dates in 1992. I hope this new production, which has been totally re-conceived for the 21st century, will entertain a new generation of Australians as well as those who already love the show.”
