More Hilltop Hoods More Hilltop Hoods

One hip hop or soul up-and-comer will get a sweet boost and a career fast-track curtsey of Aussie legends Hilltop Hoods and the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA|AMCOS), who are calling for applications for the 2013 Hilltop Hoods Initiative – a massive $10,000 grant open to artists who have not released an album professionally.

The grant is designed to cover album manufacture and release costs, with the winner also receiving David Vodicka and Media Arts Lawyers legal advice – which can be used for general or specific career advice – and plus a prize pack from Shure Microphone.

Another cool part is that applicants can be of any age, but it's expected that you'll be in the early stages of your career. Additionally, entrants must be an Australian Citizen, or have been living in Australia as a legal resident for the past two consecutive years and all must be an APRA member or have made an application to join APRA – more info on joining here.

The judging panel includes influential professionals from the hip hop world: Hau from triple j's Hip Hop show and band Koolism, South Australian graffiti artist Nish, manager, booking agent and promoter Ran-Dee and finally, artist, Blank Clothing owner and Behind The Beat author Raph.

In 2012, emerging hip hop act RUNFORYOURLIFE picked up the grant, check them out.

Applications close on 26 February, 2013, with the winners announced 28 March.
