An initial 11 dates have been set as frontman emerges from rehab.

More Green Day More Green Day

American pop punk megastars Green Day will be back on the road from late-March after having been forced to the sidelines in recent months as frontman Billy Joe Armstrong was admitted to rehab. Following a much publicised onstage meltdown at the Clear Channel iHeartRadio in Las Vegas in September, Armstrong decided to seek treatment for substance abuse and the band cancelled all forthcoming live commitments and somewhat went to ground.

But early this week the band announced that they were almost ready to pick up from where they left off, and it is a good thing that they are as they have released no fewer than three records – ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!  – since the frontman forced himself away from the spotlight.

Armstrong's first real communication with his fans came early this week when he posted a short note of thanks on his Instagram page.

“Dear friends… I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months,” the message begins. “Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger.”

In a statement released on the band's website, the band confirmed they would be back before long.

“We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months,” said the members of Green Day. “We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows.”

The band had not yet officially cancelled ten dates that were set to take place throughout January and February but have confirmed they will not be able to perform those shows.

Just 11 new dates have been announced thus far, though a representative from the band has said that there will be many more announced in the early stages of this year.
