First Local Acts Invited To SXSW 2013

Nineteen artists from Australia and New Zealand score invites

With the deadline for Australian bands wishing to showcase at next year's South By Southwest festival approaching, the mammoth conference in Austin, Texas, has announced the first batch of local bands accepted.

From Australia 16 artists have had their applications approved, while there's also three from New Zealand.

The Australian artists are:

Gold Fields
Sugar Army
The Swiss
Nolita Knights
Something For Kate
The Chevelles
San Cisco
Hiatus Kaiyote
Emma Louise
Atlas Genius
Seth Sentry
Bearhug
Twerps
360

And the New Zealand representatives:

Tom Lark
Six60
Kidsof88

Up to 50 more performers who apply before the Wednesday 7 November deadline will be invited from Australia and New Zealand. Earlier this year over 10,000 bands applied for showcase slots, with 250 of those from Australia. Out of those 71 artists Australian artists were officially invited.

Applications, which cost $40, can be made through Sonicbids.
