Again, everything Wally De Backer touches turns to gold.

More Gotye More Gotye

The winners of the Artisan and Fine Arts Awards, the first ARIAs awarded in any given year, have been announced this morning with Gotye already asserting his potential dominance on this year's awards, leaving the venue with two awards.

Presented as a part of this morning's ARIA Nominations event at Sydney's New South Wales Art Gallery, Richard Wilkins presented the Artisan Awards and Katie Noonan the Fine Arts Awards.

There were also a win for triple j, whose tribute album to Nick Cave - Straight To You - won the Best Soundtrack category.

The sentimental favourite was, however, World Music winner Joseph Tawadros with Concerto of the Greater Sea. It was his ninth nomination in ten years, but his first win.

"After ten years and nine nominations, the industry's finally trusting an Arab with a sharp object," he said in his acceptence speech, which was the most entertaining of the morning.

Speaking to theMusic.com.au after the ceremony, Tawadros said that he'd like to see the Fine Arts and Artisan awards return to the main night.
