They Might Be Giants Want To Tour Australia

They Might Be Giants want to tour Australia in 2013, but they're calling on their fans to build enough hype to ensure they're able to make it.

The band have put a call out to fans to band together so they can show potential promoters that they will be able to draw a crowd if they were to tour our country, something they haven't done since December 2001.

A Facebook fan page was started in September of last year at the suggestion of the band's John Flansburgh, telling a fan that if they wanted to see the band in Australia they'd have to get organised and show that there was support for the band in the country. The page did not gain a great deal of traction initially, but two tweets from the band this morning suggesting they were looking at an Australian visit in April 2013 with a link to the page has sparked interest again.

Formed in 1982, the band have released 15 studio records, seven live records, 18 EPs and a slew of singles; finding greatest success with 1990's Birdhouse In Your Soul, Australian cult hit Doctor Worm, released in 1998 and the 2002 Malcolm In The Middle theme Boss Of Me.
