Another 'must-see' Splendour sideshow.

Afghan Whigs are preparing to pop their Australian cherry when they head over for handful of shows this month. On the back of their recent reunion tour this is the first time the beloved band will play shows in Australia, and Brooklyn's Here We Go Magic have today been announced as support for the Sydney show.

The critically acclaimed Afghan Whigs have returned to their roots as a touring band, and will play at The Factory in Sydney on Thursday July 26, followed by an appearance at Splendour in the Grass.

The band's recent US tour was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of their first live show, and the reviews have been anything if not glowing. In a review from Variety the show was described as “Outsized in its emotional; and sonic heft, and clearly a galvanizing experience for an audience that was clearly dominated by true believers prepared to sing along with virtually every word”.

However don't expect to hear any new material, only the classics, something frontman Greg Dulli is perfectly fine with: “Those songs resonate with me; in fact, they have always resonated with me. I imagine there will be people who never saw the band before too, and that's exciting”.
