Green Day’s Sex Party Cancelled

For the past week or so Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong has been hyping up a “rock'n'roll sex party” to be taking place in LA in the near future, but today it has been announced that it is in fact not going ahead as planned. While the 'sex party' was always just a (kind of bizarre) expression Armstrong used for a secret show, fans were no less titillated by the news of the performance as word spread thick and fast about the chance to see the band.

The frontman himself was pretty excited about the party, posting a string of tweets about it over the past couple of days.

Alas, the show will no longer go on, the band issuing a statement today saying they were unable to obtain the permits necessary for the show. The LA Times reports that the show was set to take place in Burbank, just north of the Los Angeles city itself, but after Armstrong's heavy tweeting ways, the city began to have some reservations.

"Initially,they said it was for Warner Bros. employees and some friends and family. The original request was for a private event," Burbank's deputy city manager Joy Forbes told the publication.

The band's statement addressed the fact there would be some safety concerns.

“Permits needed for the show were denied by the city due to crowd control issues. The anticipated turnout was well into the thousands, and after monitoring the situation, fears were the number would dramatically swell and pose serious concern for safety of concert-goers once the location was made public."

Before the release of their 21^st Century Breakdown album in 2009 the band played a show at 1300 capacity Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles as an intimate showcase of the new record.
