The small-time wrestling promoter - and Smashing Pumpkins founder - takes a behind the scenes role.

Billy Corgan, the founding member and frontman of legendary alternative band Smashing Pumpkins, is also the Creative Director of a small-ish wrestling promotion company out of Chicago called Resistance Pro.

Having held a couple of events recently Corgan, who has a management role, rather than an inside-the-ring role, is now in talks for a reality program based around the running of a wrestling company.

According to Prowrestling.net (via Stereogum) Corgan revealed that he's been having talks with producers during an interview on MLW Radio.

"I'm doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff," he said. "We're trying to get a reality show made. We just signed a deal with a big reality show producer. A guy with an incredible track record. We're in good hands.

"We believe that wrestling is fascinating on many, many levels. Socially, politically, even economically. The struggles independent wrestlers go through to try to find work. Those are real struggles that anybody can identify with. We want to show what goes on in a wrestling company behind the scenes."

Corgan added, "I've had like nine or ten meetings so far about it. With different people. A lot of them wanted to know if this would be your typical manufactured reality show and I told them that with a wrestling company, you don't have to manufacture reality. There's plenty of it to go around."

We figure that they'll always have a fall-back if ratings dip: throw Corgan into the ring. Judging by what Craig Schuftan writes in his new book Entertain Us!, his tag line could be 'The Reject'.

"Rejected by his parents, and then the music industry, Billy 'The Reject' Corganis ready for payback. Inside the ring, this bald mauler won't be singing for anyone."

Just an idea. Either way, Corgan will be in Australia soon for the Splendour In The Grass festival and sideshows.
