If you're a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins and you missed out on tickets to this year's Splendour In The Grass, of which they headline the final night, after they sold out in record time, then you might well be in luck. This afternoon theMusic.com.au can announce exclusively that the band will perform sideshows in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne while here for the festival.

Since forming back in 1989, the band has been considered one of the most vital rock bands of their time; carrying the flame for grunge through the early-mid '90s before maturing their sound towards the end of that decade. Their third album, 1995's Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness opus went platinum nine-times over, while their second, heavily influential 1993 record Siamese Dream has been certified four-times platinum.

The band split in 2000 but creative centre Billy Corgan reinstated the project in 2005, much to the joy of his ardent fans. In 2007 the band released Zeitgeist and it was announced yesterday that artist-focused label Create/Control would be handling the Australian release of the band's new album Oceania, set for Australian release Friday 22 June.

Aussie rock titans Wolfmother will support the band on their Sydney and Melbourne dates.
