It has been a fair while coming, 20 years in fact, but there will be a new record from John Lydon's hugely influential Public Image Ltd this year.

This Is PiL will feature 12 tracks of new material and will be released on Monday 28 May through their own label PiL Official, after the band funded the recording of the album themselves. The sessions were undertaken last year in Steve Winwood's studio in the Cotswolds and all the songs were written and recorded by the current line up of the band, which features Lydon, former guitarist for The Damned (and PiL member since 1986) Lu Edmonds, drummer Bruce Smith (who also joined in 1986 after a stint with The Slits) and bassist Scott Firth, who has previously played with the likes of Elvis Costello, John Martyn and Steve Winwood.

The album will be preceded by an EP called One Drop, which will be released in conjunction with Record Store Day on Saturday 21 April.
