Lionelmania & One Direction Hysteria Topple Madge In Aus

Madonna pushed from #1 in Australia due to boy band hysteria and Lionel Richie loyalty.

More Madonna More Madonna

After debuting at number one in the ARIA Albums Chart last week, Madonna's MDNA album took a tumble to number eight this week.

Madge's one-week wonder was no match for the slow-burn hysteria for UK boy band revivalists One Direction, who have crept into the top position with their Up All Night debut following a twenty week chart climb.

Helping push Madge further down the listings was the unstoppable interest in Lionel Richie. Tuskagee, the US R&B icon's foray into country duets, not only hiked from 36 to two this week but it led to renewed interest in The Definitive Collection set which re-entered at 19.

Local lads Hilltop Hoods also held firm against Madonna, their Drinking From The Sun album staying top three in its fourth week, and now claiming platinum status.

Madonna was also gazumped by new dance diva on the block Nicki Minaj, who made the week's highest debut with Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in at five.

And then there was Adele. Her 12-times platinum 21 album remains at four in its 63rd week while her 19 album celebrated a year in the top 50 at number 32 this week.
